Gilding

Gilding can also be effected by weather, damp, woodworm and neglect which will result in structural deterioration requiring attention. The re-gilding process consists of many layers of treatment all of which is labour and time consuming. This process involves many coats of gesso – up to 5, followed by 3 coats of bole, 22 carat gold leaf which is then burnished and polished in place.
