Despite the handicap of an education at Harrow, redeemed, in part by a degree in mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge, Hercules Brabazon Sharpe decided to become an artist and spent three years in Rome studying with A.D. Fripp as one of his instructors. On the death of his elder brother he inherited the Brabazon estates (and name) in Ireland.
